Ralph Kinney Bennett was an accomplished journalist and historian whose four-decade career took him from his hometown in the Ligonier Valley to the national stage. Serving as a senior writer and editor for the Washington bureau of The Reader’s Digest for over thirty years, his reporting allowed him to interview prominent global figures, including Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Reagan, and Gerald Ford, as his assignments took him across the United States, Europe, and Central America.
Despite his travels, his heart remained in Ligonier. Upon retiring in 2002, Ralph returned home to immerse himself in the community's preservation. He served proudly on the Fort Ligonier board of trustees and authored "Ligonier 250: The Fort – The Town – The Valley." A devoted family man, man of faith, and passionate historian, this digital archive serves to preserve his writings and his enduring love for the history of Ligonier.
